We believe the state level is crucial when it comes to policy making and holds enormous power over the decisions that ensure a better quality of our everyday lives. From healthcare to finances, from jobs to the environment, the state legislatures are the roots of governance. They determine who is sent to Congress and who will go on to serve at the Federal Level, therefore affecting all levels of governance.
When State Fair raises money, those funds are sent to a PAC and distributed to fuel key legislative elections identified as winnable by The States Project. Their research and analysis into state legislative chambers confirms where they will be most impactful in defending, or building governing power, through electoral work such as state research, electoral strategy, legal compliance, on-the-ground work and analysis of post Election Day data.
Our giving circle is an active community of like minded and politically concerned changemakers doing the work needed to improve this country. We hold over 500 members who are also donors and our circle has grown continually since 2022. Together, we channel our collective resources to help with shifting the balance of power in key state legislative chambers from The States Project’s list of strategic targets - where our dollars go the furthest.
State Fair is a giving circle under The States Project, a political organisation laser focused on shifting the balance of power in key state legislative races.
In addition to improving policy on kitchen table issues, this work can impact decisions made on state laws concerning: gerrymandering; elections and voting; and Supreme Court appointments, the many areas where the federal level cannot be counted on to protect democracy.

Since 2022, we have supported state legislative electoral work, raising over $750,000 to date.
Below are more details of what that money helped achieve in legislative races in numerous states.
Trifectas in Michigan and Minnesota Flipping the Pennsylvania House a whole cycle early (and defending it through multiple special elections) in 2022!
$63,000 raised for Virginia and flipping the House and defending the Senate in 2023!
We supported Arizona, Wisconsin and Nevada and raised almost $400,000 in 2024!
Two special elections for the House and Senate in Virginia won. We raised almost $140,000 and helped defend the Virginia House of Delegates expanding the majority to 64 seats and creating the 16th Democratic Trifecta! in 2025!
